SEA SALT 2027

During the symposium, the artists explore issues such as waste reduction, the impact of fishing, and the human ability to live in healthy harmony with the sea. At the same time, open lectures on the creative process are held, as well as workshops inviting visitors to learn about stone and wood shaping practices and their connection to the marine environment.

The symposium works will be unveiled on August 28. The program includes talks with the artists, creative workshops, as well as music, dancing, and time together by the sea.

The project is being carried out in cooperation with the association “Pāvilosta Cultural and Historical Environment Center,” and it has received support through the “Changing Horizons” co-funding competition organized within the Liepāja 2027 European Capital of Culture framework.

Symposium Opening in Pāvilosta

Salt in the sea creates one of the harshest environments on the planet — it erodes and cracks, slowly and relentlessly transforming what already exists. This process serves as a metaphor for the artworks created by the artists, which are dedicated to the Baltic Sea and its ecological challenges.

Throughout August in Pāvilosta, at the SAKA Art Space, the international stone and wood sculpture symposium “Sea Salt” is taking place, with five artists participating.
